Getting your patients started on therapy

PAH Pathways offers patients on Ventavis a clear path to getting started on therapy. Working with your office, PAH Pathways and specialty pharmacies make it easier for your patients to get their medicine when they need it. Here's how it all comes together:

Ventavis Enrollment

1. You prescribe Ventavis by completing enrollment forms: The process starts when your office faxes your patient's Ventavis enrollment forms to PAH Pathways.

2. PAH Pathways contacts your patient: Once we receive your patient's Ventavis enrollment forms, PAH Pathways will:

  • Contact your patient to discuss starting Ventavis and answer any questions they may have
  • Forward your patient's information to an in-network specialty pharmacy, who will discuss insurance coverage with your patient, and deliver Ventavis directly and conveniently to your patient's home
  • Mail your patient a Ventavis Welcome Packet
  • Help your patient get started in Sure Steps™, a voluntary patient education program. Patients who enroll in Sure Steps are sent a welcome packet along with scheduled mailings and emails to offer continued support and encouragement on their journey

3. Specialty pharmacy coordinates your patient's insurance coverage: Ventavis is not available in retail pharmacies; rather, it is carried by a limited network of specialty pharmacies. Once your patient's information has been sent to a specialty pharmacy, the pharmacy will:

  • Obtain insurance approval and determine your patient's benefit status for Ventavis and the I-neb AAD System
  • Notify your patient of their out-of-pocket expenses
  • Provide information on financial assistance programs, if needed

4. Your patient receives Ventavis and device training: Your patient's specialty pharmacy ships Ventavis and the I-neb AAD System directly to your patient's home or to your office. The specialty pharmacy also schedules a training session for your patient so that they can understand how and when to take Ventavis. By using long and slow breaths, many patients have decreased their treatment times. A nurse educator conducts a patient training session, which can take place at your patient's home or in a location that's convenient.

Know that if at any time your patient has a problem with their I-neb AAD System (for example, the I-neb AAD System is not working), they can call their specialty pharmacy's 24-hour emergency service number to arrange delivery of a replacement device.

5. Your patient receives ongoing support: Know that at any time after your patient has started on therapy, they can contact PAH Pathways with questions or concerns about the delivery of medicine, insurance coverage, or financial assistance programs.

Ventavis is indicated for the treatment of pulmonary arterial hypertension (WHO Group I) in patients with NYHA Class III or IV symptoms.

Important safety information about Ventavis:

In clinical studies, common adverse reactions due to Ventavis included vasodilation (flushing), cough, headache, trismus, and insomnia. Serious adverse events reported at a rate of less than 3% included congestive heart failure, chest pain, supraventricular tachycardia, dyspnea, peripheral edema, and kidney failure. Vital signs should be monitored while initiating Ventavis. Ventavis should not be initiated in patients with systolic blood pressure less than 85 mm Hg. Stop Ventavis immediately if signs of pulmonary edema occur; this may be a sign of pulmonary venous hypertension.
